Metan Lou Unan Aun Tano Bota Tu'a Nekering

Punan Tuvu Song

Punan Tuvu is often described as being closely related to the Punan Ba-Biau-Sama language, both belonging to the broader “Punan” language family. However, when Punan speakers listen to this song, most say they cannot understand it. At the same time, they do recognize certain words—like Lalom, Ungei, and Tadak—suggesting some degree of shared vocabulary.

But does that really mean Punan Tuvu is closely related to the other Punan languages? I’m not sure. Language relationships aren’t just about a few familiar words—they’re about structure, grammar, and deep linguistic connections.
